About Windsor Locks Dollars for Scholars

 

Windsor Locks Dollars for Scholars was established in October 2001 by a group of volunteers.

We are affiliated with the national organization, Scholarship America.  Our goal is to open doors to higher education, including two-year, four-year, and vocational and technical colleges, for individuals in Windsor Locks.  As the cost of education continues to escalate we strive to provide both encouragement and financial support for local students.  Many colleges and universities provide matching funds for Dollars for Scholars awards.  

WHAT WE DO

  • We work with the Windsor Locks High School guidance department to administer approximately 75% of the scholarships given through the Windsor Locks Public Schools. 
  • We encourage groups, individuals, clubs and organizations to take advantage of Dollars for Scholars affiliation. 
  • We fundraise to award new/additional scholarships.  Our local chapter was proud to award the first Windsor Locks Dollars for Scholars Scholarship to a local 2004 graduating senior and to award the first Windsor Locks Public Schools Alumni Scholarship to a graduate of the Class of 2005.  During the Scholarship ceremony in June of 2007 we awarded our first Windsor Locks Dollars for Scholars Judy McDonald Memorial Scholarship. 
  • We oversee the investment of scholarship funds entrusted to us by local citizens.  
  • We solicit new scholarships for our students from local businesses, citizens and clubs.
